About Our Founder & Executive Director:

Sherelle Barnes is a resilient leader whose life journey from incarceration and addiction to long-term recovery fuels the mission of STAR Horizons Intervention. Raised in South-Central Los Angeles amid generational trauma, instability, and abuse, Sherelle experienced firsthand the impact of systemic disadvantage, substance abuse, and incarceration on families.

After more than 15 incarcerations between the ages of 19 and 36, Sherelle’s life changed in 2016 when she was mandated to complete a comprehensive drug and alcohol treatment program. Through intensive rehabilitation, therapy, and recovery support, she began rebuilding her life. Now over eight years sober, Sherelle has become a successful entrepreneur, homeowner, and advocate for healing-centered change.

Her lived experience is the foundation of STAR Horizons Intervention. Sherelle founded the organization to break cycles of generational trauma by providing mentoring, recovery support, and prevention services for families impacted by incarceration, substance abuse, and environmental trauma. Her mission is to ensure that youth and parents receive the tools, guidance, and opportunities needed to build stable, empowered futures.

Our Focus

STAR Horizons takes a holistic approach to recovery by supporting parents and children in breaking cycles of generational trauma and systemic disadvantage. Through recovery services and mentorship, we empower individuals impacted by incarceration and substance abuse to rebuild their lives, strengthen families, and guide at-risk youth toward healthier futures.

Goal Statement

Our goal is to reduce recidivism, promote sobriety, and prevent at-risk youth from falling into the same traps of substance abuse and crime. STAR Horizons aims to foster lasting change by providing the support necessary for individuals to rebuild their lives, strengthen family connections, and develop skills for long-term success and well-being.
